Activities while staying at Eagles Nest Winery & Cottage:

As the annual winemaking events unfold you can get a persoal tour with the winemaker, or on a more active note, personally participate in winemaking activities that include picking grapes, crushing and pressing the grapes into wine, racking and barreling of wine, bottling and labeling wine, or simply relaxing with a glass of fine wine and enjoying the view of the vineyards.

A tour of our winery and vineyards will give you insight into all that goes into a bottle of wine and our resident winemaker will share our winemaking philosophy with you!

Truthfully, it would take several years of stays at the cottage to experience all the possible area activities. For the time being, Ramona remains a semi-rural area and an oasis from the urban crush. Equestrial activities are popular and we stil have several feed stores catering to farm animal owners and also folks that like regular and designer cowboy and cowgirl boots!

Annual community events include the Ramona Rodeo, Air Show, Hawk Watch, and fall winery activities. Year-round activities include premium golf, hiking, biking, horseback riding, antique shopping, local historic sites, scenic rural drives, and visiting Ramona’s growing wineries.

You can also make your own “event” and simply relax in the scenic, rural country environment. Hear the sounds of distant range cattle, or a faint dawn call of a rooster, or the neigh of nearby horses.

Naturalists, bird watchers, astronomers. The Wildlife Research Institute hosts an annual series of weekend Hawk Watches in the Ramona Valley grasslands located ten minutes below Eagles Nest early each year.

During the day, you’ll hear the haunting cry of area raptors (birds of prey) that patrol the skies above the cottage throughout the year. Throughout your stay, Eagles Nest – your aerie (an eagle’s home) offers unparalleled views of the valley and landscape.

Naturalists and city folks will also enjoy ever-changing weather features most notably the enchanting early morning ground fog, the warm summer sun – in Ramona’s “Valley of the Sun”, pink sunrises, and golden sunsets.

Amateur astronomers will enjoy star-filled nights only a half hour from the city. Set up your telescope at Eagles Nest – the clear night skies of Ramona are second only to the nearby Palomar and Laguna mountains. If you don’t have a telescope, we can arrange for a private guided sky tour with several of our expert astronomy contacts.

Fishermen will enjoy nearby Lake Sutherland and its freshwater fishing.
